TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE:
If your child needs assistance with iPad issues (apps, software, hardware), please have him/her visit the onsite Technology Support specialist located in the workroom of the library. Tech Help has no set hours, but is generally available before school (starting at 7:30am), throughout regular school hours, and after school (until 3-3:30pm). Occasionally, Tech Help is closed and the child will need to try back another time for assistance.
STUDENT USE PRINTER:
There is one student use printer located in the library. Use is on a first-come, first-served basis and is subject to availability of ink and paper due to heavy use. During nutrition and lunch, the line to use the printer can get very long. The printer is not wireless and requires the student to physically log on to the computer wired to the printer. Students can only print documents from their Google accounts. Students should limit their printing to five (5) pages or less and documents should be related to school assignments only. No personal printing is allowed.
PLEASE NOTE:
- The library is open during nutrition for quiet study, book check-out/return, tech help and printing.
- During lunch the library is only available for silent, independent study. There is no talking or group work.
- There is no personal technology use in the library. Technology may only be used for studying or reading. Personal technology can be defined as cell phones, video games, movies, YouTube videos, etc.
- These rooms are for studying only.

- Lose library for one day on the first infraction.
- Lose library for one week on the second infraction.
- Lose library for one month on the third infraction.
- Chronic misbehavior will mean losing library privileges for the remainder of the year.
LIBRARY CATALOG: Follett Destiny Catalog
You may view the Library’s catalog HERE. This catalog contains a directory of the holdings in the MBMS library on campus. Click the link to Manhattan Beach Middle School in the upper right corner of the site and you will be connected to the Follett Destiny Library catalog of MBMS. If you wish, from the main screen of the Destiny site, you may also click on links to the library catalogs of the other schools in the district. This web-based interface enables our students, staff, and parents to have access to a unified catalog of all holdings in MBUSD school libraries, and it promotes library to classroom to home learning and connectivity.
Our MBMS students use the library to check out books, conduct research, study, and develop information literacy skills. The library's collection consists of over 12,000 items, including fiction, nonfiction and reference materials. We also feature a textbook collection which students can check-out or use for study in the library.
The MBMS Library is funded by the generosity of the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation and the Manhattan Beach Middle School PTA. With their support, the MBMS Library offers exceptional reading and research resources to our students and staff.
