Access Books is a non-profit founded in 1999 in response to the need for updated and sufficiently supplied elementary and middle school libraries in the Los Angeles area which are suffering because of inadequate library funding. With the help of monetary donations and grants Access Books purchases new popular titles for the libraries. We also provide new furniture and paint murals for the libraries. In addition, with the help of the community volunteers at sponsor schools, a week-long book drive is held to collect gently used books which are then sorted by grade level and placed in classroom libraries. The volunteers from the sponsor school as well as the host school work together on a Saturday to complete the painting of the murals and the sorting and shelving of the books.
